Leysin is an excellent base for rock climbing. On the doorstep are a vast number of climbs on the 'Tours' as well as good beginner areas suitable for developing skills and building confidence. Two 'Via Ferratas' in Leysin and many others in the region give an exciting initation to the vertical world without any technical difficulty.
Within a short distance, the 'pre Alps' offer many other possibilities from scrambling and easy multi pitch routes to very technical rock routes. The great classic is the 'Mirroir d'Argentine' close to Villars giving 400m slab routes from grade 4 (UK severe, US 5.5). In addition there are many valley crags when the weather is not favourable at altitude.
Rock climbing is a really great activity, in beautiful surroundings, excellent for the mind! Between May and September I can organize 1-7 days of rock climbing, not only in this region but throughout the Alps from the granite of Central Switzerland and Val Bregaglia to the limestone on the Mediterranean coast .....
